Position Overview
Come join the opening team. We are seeking a reliable and energetic Barback to support our bar operations. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to ensuring our bartenders have everything they need to provide exceptional service to our guests in a fast-paced restaurant and speakeasy environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Service
Anticipate bar staff needs and provide fast, flawless support throughout service
Maintain the bar by setting and bussing plates, utensils, and glassware
Sanitize tables and bar surfaces
Coordinate with servers and bartenders for large drink orders
Ensure all used bar glassware is cleaned to DHEC standards
Step in to take food and drink orders when bartender is unavailable, ensuring guest needs are met without delay
Provide detailed menu knowledge and make recommendations
Answer questions about menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods
Assist with taking accurate food and beverage orders using POS system (Toast)
Accommodate special dietary needs and requests
Check back with guests to ensure satisfaction throughout the experience at the bar
Bar Setup & Preparation:
Arrive punctually in proper uniform, well-groomed and ready to work
Attend daily preshift meetings
Cut fruit garnishes including lemons, limes, and oranges
Prepare simple syrups and other mixers
Fill ice bins and set up bar stations with necessary tools and supplies
Maintain par levels of wine, beer, liquor, and kegs throughout service
Equipment & Maintenance:
Regularly check and maintain bar equipment including ice machines, blenders, refrigeration units, and glass washers
Ensure all tools and supplies are in good working order
Maintain general cleanliness in all areas of the restaurant including FOH and BOH
Follow all procedures and policies set forth by the company and County health department
Teamwork & Operations:
Assist with side work for both restaurant and speakeasy needs
Support fellow FOH team members and BOH departments to maintain positive working relationships
Become knowledgeable with the POS system and assist with operation of POS if needed
Adhere to all sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies
Check out with manager before ending each shift
Maintain an upbeat and positive attitude throughout each shift
QualificationsRequired
Previous barback or restaurant experience
Strong work ethic with ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to anticipate needs and work proactively
Team-oriented with positive attitude
Knowledge of FIFO inventory methods preferred
Understanding of sanitation and safety protocols
Must be able to adhere to alcohol service regulations
Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Food Handler certification or ability to obtain
Alcohol service certification (TIPS)
Preferred
Experience with POS systems (Toast)
Knowledge of beer, wine and spirits, and standard cocktails
Fine dining experience
Bilingual abilities (Spanish)
Knowledge of dietary restrictions and allergies
Event experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for 8-10 hour shifts
Capable of lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs (kegs, beer cases, ice)
Comfortable working in hot kitchen environments
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move quickly
Manual dexterity for handling dishes and glassware
